Primary Sources: Newspapers/Magazines

Definition

Newspapers and magazines are both primary and secondary sources depending on the article you are using. Articles on current events and topics and interviews are considered primary documents. Articles on the background of the events or topics or about things that took place in an earlier time would be considered secondary documents.

Again, perspective is everything, so it is important to know about the publisher of a newspaper or magazine. Are they liberal or conservative? Are they supporting a particular belief or mindset? Also, do the articles provide evidential support for the statements they are making?
