"Professional Black Girl is an original video series and online movement created to celebrate everyday Black womanhood, and to confront “respectable” expectations of how we should “behave.” By announcing ourselves “Professional Black Girls,” Black women and girls assert an unapologetic identity, in a world that too often tries to silence our voices. The terms often used to describe and define Black girls— bad, grown, fast, ghetto, and ratchet— are words intended to kill our joy and our magic. But we don’t shy away from those words, we embrace them and celebrate ALL that makes us who we are. Ultimately, we know that acting like we “ought to” will not spare us from this world’s disdain for us, so we choose ourselves."
